If you’re looking for ways to save energy and lower your energy costs, a home energy assessment is the best place to start.
At New England Smart Energy Group, we offer cost-effective Energize Connecticut™ Home Energy Solutions (HES) and Home Energy Solutions-Income Eligible (HES-IE) visits that go above and beyond a standard energy assessment to improve your home’s energy efficiency, comfort, safety, and health.
What Is a Home Energy Assessment?
A home energy assessment (sometimes called an energy audit) is an evaluation of your home’s energy usage.
- Shows you where your home is losing energy so you can make improvements and save money on your energy expenses
- Helps you address comfort problems that are tied to energy efficiency, like a house that’s hot and humid in the summer or cold and drafty in the winter
- Addresses health and safety issues that could be putting your home and family at risk
What Happens During a Home Energy Assessment?
When you schedule an HES or HES-IE visit with New England Smart Energy Group, one of our certified assessors will visit your home to complete the assessment. Our team is fast, thorough, and respectful. In just a few hours, you’ll get:
- Health & Safety Checks – We test combustion appliances to make sure they’re operating safely, and check for hazards like asbestos, knob-and-tube wiring, and mold.
- Visual Inspection – We’ll walk through your home, looking for signs of energy loss.
- Blower Door Test – We measure air leakage to see how much heat and AC you’re losing through problem areas like old windows and leaks.
- Air Duct Test – If you have a forced-air heating system, we’ll check your air ducts for leaks that could be wasting energy.
- Custom Report – You’ll get a personalized report showing your home’s energy performance, along with guidance on rebates and low-interest financing for upgrades like insulation, new windows, and energy-efficient heat pumps.
Here’s where an HES or HES-IE visit goes beyond a typical energy assessment: our team performs on-the-spot improvements so you can start saving energy and lower your costs right away. Your visit includes air sealing and, if needed, duct sealing, low-flow shower heads, faucet aerators, and more.
It’s all included for a $75 co-pay. If you meet income requirements, your assessment and upgrades are completed at no cost.
Signs You Need a Home Energy Assessment
Not sure if an energy assessment is worth it for your home? If you’ve noticed any of the following signs, you would likely benefit from one:
- Inexplicably high energy bills
- Certain rooms that are always either too hot or too cold
- Drafts around windows and doors
- A furnace or air conditioner that runs constantly
It’s also a good idea to schedule an energy assessment if you’re planning to upgrade your insulation, windows, or heating and cooling system soon. The assessment will help you decide whether the upgrades you’re planning are worth it or if other improvements would have a greater impact. Plus, it will help you access rebates and incentives that could cover most or even all of your installation costs for insulation, heat pumps, replacement windows, and more.
