As a Connecticut homeowner, you pay some of the highest electricity rates in the country! If you’re looking for ways to save, an Energize Connecticut℠ Home Energy Solutions℠ (HES) assessment is the best place to start.

Energize Connecticut helps you save money and use clean energy. It is an initiative of the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Connecticut Green Bank, the State, and your local electric and gas utilities with funding from a charge on customer energy bills. New England Smart Energy Group is an Energize Connecticut authorized contractor. We can help you find energy-saving opportunities, make upgrades, and qualify for incentives during one easy visit with an HES assessment.

Home Energy Solutions assessments are available to Connecticut residents for just $75, and income-eligible homeowners can receive a no-cost assessment. That small investment leads to huge savings—the average homeowner receives $850 in services and saves $180 on their annual energy bills!

What to Expect During Your Home Energy Assessment

Our comprehensive HES assessments are completed by Building Performance Institute (BPI)-certified energy efficiency experts and go beyond what’s included in a conventional energy audit:

  1. Introduction – Your assessment starts with an initial conversation during which we will explain the process and answer any questions you have before we begin testing.
  2. Health & Safety Test – We perform a safety test on all combustion appliances, look for hazardous materials like mold and asbestos, check for carbon monoxide leads, and more.
  3. Blower Door Test –  A certified technician will perform a blower door test to locate air leaks and locate indoor drafts.
  4. Duct Testing – If you have forced-air heating or central air conditioning, we’ll test your ductwork to assess airflow and locate leaks.
  5. Air Sealing – We’ll seal all critical air leaks to reduce energy loss and eliminate drafts.
  6. Duct Sealing – If necessary, we’ll seal significant leaks in your ductwork.
  7. Water-Saving Measures – We may install water-saving devices, including low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators.
  8. Kitchen Table Wrap-Up – At the end of the assessment, we’ll sit down with you to review the work we did and your expected savings. We’ll also discuss additional energy-saving measures you can implement, like Aeroseal, insulation, windows, and HVAC, and the incentive and financing options available to help you make those upgrades.

On top of everything else, you’ll receive a Department of Energy (DOE) Home Energy Score, which explains how much energy your home uses compared to similar houses.  This can help guide your home improvement decisions.
