Join in the GreenUp Avon Initiative
The Avon Sustainability Commission (ASC) was established by the Avon Town Council in 2008 as the Avon Clean Energy Commission to promote the adoption of energy-efficient and sustainable practices by the Town and Board of Education (BOE), residents, and local businesses. Retitled the Avon Sustainability Commission in March 2026, our activities focus on long-term planning, infrastructure improvement projects, and community outreach and programming.
Over the last several years, the Commission has encouraged residents to participate in the Energize ConnecticutSM Home Energy SolutionsSM program through our GreenUp Avon initiative. We are pleased to partner with New England Smart Energy (NESE) to further our goal of 250 home energy assessments performed in the program in 2026!
As a utility-authorized contractor, NESE performs home energy assessments and follow-up weatherization upgrades that help Avon residents reduce energy usage, save money, and improve the safety and comfort of their homes.
During your home energy assessment, an energy specialist will review your home’s energy performance, provide personalized upgrade recommendations, perform a safety test for any of your combustible appliances, and show you how to save money and energy year-round. The visit includes a blower door test, a whole-home health and safety check, a comprehensive energy report, and instant savings measures, including installation of water-saving devices. Plus, you’ll also learn about applicable Energize CT rebates, incentives, and financing options.
This service is offered at no cost for income-eligible residents and for a $40 co-pay for all other customers. The average value of the products and services received is $1,000, and the average household saves $70-100 per year after the initial visit, and even more if additional weatherization recommendations are completed!
